Help: Screen Goes Black After Log On

I fire up the laptop, it all works. It all goes fine until I log on, after logging on it takes a good 2 minutes for the screen and desktop and task bar to actually show up. There is a cursor there and everything, it just takes some time to appear.

This laptop is brand new. I just bought it.

Do you have any programs running in the background?

Get in touch with the manufacturer of the laptop. A brand new computer should work perfectly.

But... if you have installed programs on your new laptop, try going to msconfig.exe and on the startup tab, disable all entries except your antivirus, then reboot and see if there is still a delay after logging in. If it boots faster, one of the programs in startup is the problem.

Or you could try doing a restore to factory new state. Read the owners manual for the keyboard commands, it's probably a .pdf file on the hard drive.
