Is it a better idea to have media files on a different drive?

I personally don't know? I haven't used a program like that in a long time. These days I try to get it right the first time. One solution would be to back everything up on external media or another drive and start over. Delete all partitions and start over from scratch. Or wait for someone more knowledgeable than me to suggest a program/utility to use.
