tiles and windows key don't always work windows 8

so i upgraded my desktop from win7x64 to win8

this is an anoyying issue

if i hit the windows key it takes me to metro, which is fine.

however if i click on an app, and then it loads, and hit the window key, it doesn't do anything. It doesn't put me back to the metro home screen. I have to alt tab, and then alt tab back, and then my keys start working.

Sometiems it happens on the default metro screen too, I can click desktop and it doesn't take me me to the desktop, it just clicks in, but it doesn't do anything. I have to alt tab.

My laptop is fine, and I upgraded that.

Any help?
