Running Windows 95

I was going through my old programs and found my original Windows 95 and 98 disks. I got the bright idea to try and find a 486 on which to install Windows 95. I went down to a local store that had old computers but the oldest they had was a Pentium 4. I looked on Ebay and found out that working 486's are selling for around $500. I guess they are in the "Antique" category now. What would be the "newest" PC that would run Windows 95? I don't think a Pentium 4 would run it. Would just a straight Pentium 75mhz or so run it or might something even newer run it? Thanks,

Since I posted my original message, I did find on Ebay a Pentium II working with Windows 98 so it would run Windows 95. It is only $60. I can't decide whether to waste my money or not. Still looking for a 486.

Probably oughta get a couple at that price only 15K per.

I have an oldie my Dad gave me years ago, it has an Intel 486SX cpu, 5" floppy drive, a "turbo" button that changes speeds from 8X to 25X to run older apps, I think 640K HDD. You can have it if you want, wish we were closer geographically.

I just ran into a hitch on my plans. I realized that they only have a 56K modem, hence no Wifi. I don't have a convenient place to plug in a phone line. Oh well, it was a great idea. Back to something productive................

Not sure about Win95, but I've ran Win98 on a Pentium 3 without any troubles some years ago. It probably supports pretty much any computer, as long as you can find the proper drivers.

An alternative solution, instead of buying an old computer to run Win 9.X, why don't you try to setup it in a virtual machine inside your current OS?

Of course not! Wifi didn't exist at that time, and drivers for 9.X are almost non-existent. Possibly, you can search for a LAN card and plug it to a normal wired network to your router to have network instead.
