After pressing any character on my keyboard I can't click for 1 second

After pressing any character on my keyboard (except Shift, Ctrl, Alt, or Fn) I can't left or right click for 1 second afterward. The computer simply does not register the fact that I clicked. This would be no big deal except I am making a game that requires using the keyboard and mouse together. I have not had this problem while working on my game until an hour or so ago.

If you have any knowledge about this subject, please let me know.

Have you tried using System Restore to restore to a time when this did not happen?

To what extent are you making this game? From the code up; with prewritten code; or inside of a piece of software?

Does this happen only within the game environment, or in all computer activity (internet browser, desktop etc)?

This problem occurs no matter which programs I am currently using. It happens universally.

I wonder if a poorly written key logger could cause this delay/freeze.

Check your system with a offline scanner:
What is Windows Defender Offline?
Those types of scanners can find bad things that load before the OS does.

If the WDO scan comes up clean and if you want to spend the time digging into this, you can use Process Monitor to see what is happening during that lag.

Are you using a touchpad delaying program that disables the touchpad briefly after pressing a key so you won't accidentally move the pointer while typing if your thumb drags across the touchpad? When I tried them to disable the *&^%$#@! touchpad on my Lenovo while typing, I found it also briefly shut down my mouse.

Not that I'm aware of. The pointer can still move after I press a key, I simply cannot click.

A weird thing about this problem is that it is not consistent. Sometimes it is present and sometimes it is not.

First thing you should probably do is check to see you have the latest drivers for both the mouse/keyboard. Surprised nobody has states this yet.

Good idea. I will do this, but how can I know which keyboard/mouse I have, when they are integrated into my computer? I have a laptop with the same built-in keyboard and touchpad that came with it.

EDIT:
I should point out that I don't think it's my touchpad that's acting up, because I've used an external mouse with this computer and that did not solve the problem.

oh god, sorry. I wasn't quite paying attention. They're most likely up to date already. The only way you can really update them is by going start > device manager > open both the 'mice and pointing devices' tab and the 'keyboards' tab and right click and click update. Although like I said, I doubt they'll be an update on the keyboard since laptops usually use pretty standard ps/2 keyboards. Although there could possibly be an update on the trackpad, I've only had 1 update on it for my laptop in the past year.

edit: just saw your edit, so I suppose updating would be kind of irrelevant. it's always worth a shot though. :P
