Is there any hope in moving Win7 HDD to a new home?

You can clone or image, but if you do that you are imaging your old motherboard drivers and all kind of stuff from the old install. Do yourself a favor and do a Clean Install. If your Docs are on a separate partition from your OS and Programs, it should be a breeze to do it. Forty minutes for the Clean Install and then you can take your time installing programs. Just put the ones in you need at first.

Did you read my post above? I gave you the options for both freeware and paid methods to move Win7 to another PC which have been used here for years.

Did you think I was typing them out to exercise my fingers? It's amazing you would reply only to the posts which didn't answer your direct question!

I don't think you were forced to type any replies. No need to chastise the OP.

Ah don't mind Greg, he's pretty grouchy with everyone. Makes me look positively playful by comparison!

Everyone? All 28,000 posts? Why would anyone rep me then?

It's bad enough having half the OP's lately ignoring help but then to be piled on by supposed "colleagues" here is intolerable. Are you trying to drive me out?

Come to think of it, neither of you have ever had a nice thing to say that I've seen. I spend a good part of my 5-6 hours per day here at least trying to be collegial.

Number of posts and being polite do not have anything to do with each other. If you think you posts are well mannered, then perhaps I am wrong. Please forgive me.

    Greg is correct.

I have done it numerous times without any problem.

It can be done manually - but I suggest you try sysprep - or if you already moved it to a new machine - use the Paragon program Greg linked to ( they are giving it away ).

It has never failed me and is very to use.

If someone makes the effort to post - paticularly someone with the experience of Greg -he doesn't expect it to be ignored.

Thank you, Si. You are my teacher here from the beginning and one who I look up to the most. So it means more than you can know.

My point is that in that number of posts I've never been warned about impoliteness and in fact just last week had the owner of the Forums reply to my exasperation over OP's not following through by telling me to "hit them harder." Even then I don't like nagging and spend time editing it out of my posts.

In this case I had spent several hours PM'ing SIW2 to get the latest download of Paragon Adaptive Restore CD, putting together the best methods for imaging/moving HD over to new hardware. In the interim the thread was hijacked so it may have confused or derailed the OP's train of thought. All I saw was intensive work being ignored, then when I complained about it, being piled upon as though I was an usurper.

I have no ill will toward anyone here and would like to have upbeat positive relations with everyone. But having steps ignored - especially in a speciality where missing one step can ruin Win7 - is a constant source of aggravation which I struggle to rise above. I won't apologize for taking my work seriously.

Okay I have went through all these post several times and I'm confused.
I don't care about time zones or the what not.
All I want to know does the OP have a legal copy of Windows? With a little help from Noel that shouldn't take long.
Has the OP tried any suggestion that Greg has posted? What was the outcome. If for what ever reason they didn't work more help will be given.
Is the OP going to try any of Greg's suggestion? If so I will tag along and see what happens. Now if the OP doesn't want to follow the good suggestions from some very capable people that is also fine. The OP can have a nice day and we can get on with our lives helping other people.
