Are there other usernames on my computer? How can I tell if anyone...

Hello, the first question may be a dumb question, but attached is a screenshot of my users of my computer. Is "system" something unusual or just a normal part of the comupter? "Alan" should be the only user.

Also, how can I find out if my computer has ever been hacked into (besides seeing if any internet history/files have changed). I read there are ways the tracks can be covered up but just wondering if there are some procedures I can follow to see if it has happened.

There are a lot of different groups and users built into Windows, you account is not the only one. This is completely normal.

In my case (viewed it from Computer Management -> Local Users and Groups -> Users) I have:

    My user obviously :)
    Administrator
    Guest
    Homegroup

And there are many groups, all with an helpful description.

But I have currently Windows 8, I can't recall if Windows 7 is the same.

Sorry, edited to include screenshot. So it's normal? Derek10, in my case the order is different. How about the 2nd question, any steps I can take to see if someone has ever hacked into my computer?

No. Impossible to tell...but I doubt you have to worry about being hacked. Anyone worth their salt wouldn't bother hacking casual users.

True, just one time a couple weeks ago Avast blocked a virus like 4 times in a row I was just wondering if someone was trying and actually tried more than that and got through once. Thought it'd be cool to be able to tell if they did or not, but hopefully nothing to worry about.
