The laptop will be fine to work on while it charges, it will not harm the battery or laptop. If you feel the need to pull the battery out and run the laptop on just the power from the outlet, then that is fine. It's all up to you what you want to do.

I don't know where you heard that, but that is completely wrong. The battery is not damaged when charging while the computer is in use. Laptops are designed to allow for the battery to charge while in use like all devices that use built-in rechargeable batteries. It does not cause damage.

Leave the battery in. Mine stays in all of the time. I am connected to the mains,the source of a.c. power (to the wall outlet or whatever you call it) at least 95% of the time.
I've never replaced a battery.
This is modern day electronics. Just leave the battery in.
