change drive letter, affects program function?

i have most of my programs installed to a drive (partition) other than C:

so if i change the drive letter of that partition, i'm pretty sure that all of the references to all of those programs in the registry will not be updated accordingly...

so then some of the programs won't be able to start or function properly...?

    is this correct thinking?

Hello zdeve, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yes, that would be correct. All references to that program would be broken since it would no longer be at the original drive letter it was installed on.

thanks, Brink, glad to be here

i'm one of those windows users who has only just upgraded to 7 - so really happy to find these excellent forums

actually, i have already been able to solve a lot of issues by using your very helpfull tutorials - thanks to all concerned!

about the drive letter - i suspected as much - anyway not too serious!

on a good day i could seek out and change some reg entries - or just reinstall

Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad that the tutorials were able to help.

I'd say reinstalling the affected programs would be better since that would be the only way to make sure that you correct all references.
