Thanks for the tip on Microsoft Essentials. I have it on one laptop because it came with it and Avast on the other. I have used Avast for nearly 10 years on several computers and never had a problem. I will stick with what has worked but I will switch if there are any more problems. I didn't know that there was a free version of MSE, good information.

I know the feeling of using a program for many years. MSE is the first free anti virus I ever used. After many store bought ones of various brands. It's not really that other anti virus don't protect your system as much as it is the fact that many don't play well with Windows 7.

It is good to know what works well with Win 7. Some programs don't make the transition from XP to 7. I found a GPS receiver had problems on 7 but not XP. I finally got tech support to point out some settings changes in the Control Panel and that did the trick. Way too much time spent in the process.
