    Startup Issues

    Hi Guys;

    My friend seems to have buggered her laptop. It is a Dell Inspirit n5030, W7 Home Premium x64.

    I'll give you a run through of the issues i'm having as it is right now.

    Booting into normal mode: No luck, splash screen freezes.
    Booting into safe mode: Can do.
    MBAM Scan in Safe Mode: Nothing, no viri etc.
    Booting from W7 Installation USB: No luck, splash screen freezes.
    Startup Repair: Doesn't do a thing, just goes back to this screen: http://mlambert890.files.wordpress.c...ir-command.jpg

    I've got an External HDD with Ubuntu on for just this issue and it doesn't recognise that it's there.

    I've ran sfc /scannow and it's fixed any issues it comes across, but still no luck.

    I've used minitool partition bootable usb but the laptop doesn't seem to want to boot at all from the USB and DVD. Any ideas?

    Hello Isidore and welcome to Seven Forums.

    One of the Forum experts prepared a couple of troubleshooting guides that might help.

    Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot

    Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

    The steps can be time consuming but the tutorials have helped many solve their issues.

    Hi marsmimar;

    Thanks for the reply, i have tried the steps in the tutorial, but the issue is that i cannot boot from ANY Live CD/USB as it gets stuck on this screen: http://windows7freak.com/wp-content/...lashscreen.jpg at that point. I've left it for a couple of hours and nada.

    Other half has formatted the HDD so at the moment there is NO OS on the HDD, and it still won't boot the windows installation.

    Unplug all other HD's and peripherals to boot the disks needed for repairs in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot.

    If they still fail to boot enter BIOS setup at boot to reset to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS. While in BIOS setup check your temps and SATA setting.

    If you can't boot a disk, write the installer to bootable flash stick from step in tutorial, or use http://www.pendrivelinux.com/install...-a-usb-device/ to test your HD, RAM and do the PW repair steps in tutorial.

    Report back results.

    Hi,

    As most of the Troubleshooting steps have already been performed by you, the only last step I can recommend is to run Dell Diagnostics. In order to run Dell Diagnostics from Hard Drive, follow the below mentioned steps:
    · Restart your computer.
    · When the DELL™ logo appears, tap <F12> immediately.
    · In the boot device list, highlight Boot to Utility Partition and press <Enter>.
    · Under Dell Diagnostics Main Menu (see Dell Diagnostics Main Menu), select the extended test. If you get any error code, reply on this forum with the error code.

    Hope this helps.
