Not normal startup from hibernation

When my PC running windows 7 boots up from hibernation it asks if I want to boot normally, safe mode, etc. I boot normally and it then goes to a page that tries to identify the problem for 25 minutes, but never finds one.

any Ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

Can you access your computer at all?

Is your Windows 7 installation purchased pre-installed with the computer or did you install it yourself?

Yes I can access my computer. I just select boot normally, then when it gets to the startup repair screen, light blue with the hummingbird, I click on cancel. When I get out of that screen it boots normally, it is just sluggish and not resposive for the next 15 minutes.
The windows 7 came preinstalled from Dell and is 10 months old.
I just installed my software, PCtools spyware seems to slow the system down the most.

Go to Start > Search Programs and Files > Type (without quotes) "msconfig" > Startup tab:

Disable any programs from starting up which are related to Dell, and remove PCTools and download Microsoft Security Essentials instead (link in my signature); perform a full scan.

Create a System Restore beforehand, just in case you disable any important programs which are needed.

Hope this helps,

Harry

Since it seems to be a hibernation issue see the tutorial Hibernation on/off

Use option 1 - try turning Hibernation off (will remove the hibernation file) and see if the system will recover without going through the repair. There might be garbage in the hibernation.

You should also see what your power configuration settings are. Actually you can turn off hibernation there by not selecting hibernation in the critical action (I think) section. The easiest thing here is to select the power plan you're currently using and save it as a new plan - then make changes.

Reboot. If you absolutely require hibernation, you can always turn it back on and switch plans back to the original or reset your power configuration.

With Hibernation turned off. The problem appears to goe away. I am always on AC power so I don't see why I need Hibernation.

Thanks Harry.

@markenass: Get rid of PCtools spyware and use Malwarebytes' - it is a very good malware product and it plays well with Windows and other AV software. It's a scanner - not real time protection
I just installed my software, PCtools spyware seems to slow the system down the most.
Sorry I missed that earlier
