Just hang in there. I have a five bypass and 4 stents in arteries going to my legs just so I could walk and I'm still here. The good times aren't far away. It just takes time to build up your strength. Sometimes it just taking it day at a time.

24 page posts. They are having problems getting new programs working on the Feb 1999 OS. Well no surprise there.........
There is no way I would trust Windows 2000 on my computer outside of a locked down virtual machine.
I know some people who would immediately differ on opinions there! Mainly they were well content running 2000 and 2000 Pro, barked at XP with some skipping over XP to go with Vista later. They loved the old OS and some are still wanting it! When 7 came out I heard from one person who was skeptical there too but ended up staying with it.

The best results I have found to date for any version having a great backward compatibility for running old stuff proved to be the 32bit 7 on the other hand. You could run old XP written games and apps that would not run on Vista in any way, shape, or form. That was with the compatibiliy mode with run as admin options tried as well as one other thing to note while 7 run the same things instantly! Found that to be true on an old boat with 128mb AGP card and onboard sound plus the XP chipset drivers all worked.

Once any version becomes too old the newer stuff wouldn't be expected to support the latest on the other hand. Thare is only so much newer that first must be compatible with the older to even work. Newer pc games tend to fare better when they included XP in order to see them run on that older version but forget 9x, ME, 2000 there! Of course the as always thing to see with any OS is once 2 or 3 newer releases or versions are out any 4th being too old just won't run things.
I don't get me wrong, I used Windows 2000 and then switched to XP. Windows 2000 was lean and mean. It was good if you did not want to run older stuff. Many happy days spent surfing, listening to Winamp playing my music and a networked game of Quake with the wife and brother-in-law.
At least you had a chance to run with 2000 for a bit. I was keeping 98SE alive for quite a time until new boards no longer any drivers as well as of course not seeing any for anything else hardware wise either. But when Vista came along I still had to keep XP on to run some XP apps and games. If I had elected to stay with the 32bit Windows then 7 would have picked up the slack that Vista had there.

Hi there
I actually thought it was a shame Ms didn't make more of XP 64 bit edition -- at the time though 64 bit machines weren't common and 64 bit drivers were as rare as hens teeth.

Had we had XP 64 bit maintained and developed I doubt whether we would have had VISTA at all -- and hence Windows 7 --would it have existed -- well that's one of those "Might have been" questions.

If you are a TechNet subscriber you can still download XP 64 bit edition --although you'll probably have to run it as a Virtual machine to get any use out of it.

Cheers
jimbo

Often the solution for drivers on the 64bit XP Pro(2005) were to take and use Windows Server 2003 x64 drivers to get anything to work. Being that was the first 64bit desktop OS from MS not even OEMs were prepared ahead of time. But having the failed 64bit XP did provide OEMs warning of what would be coming next namely a 64bit Vista or 64bit version to come next.
