Win 7 availability once Win 8 launches?

Does anyone know whether Windows 7 will still be available in the stores for purchase once Windows 8 is officially launched on Oct 25th?

Perhaps someone can recall what happened to Vista when Win 7 launched.

If Win 7 is going to be pulled from the shelves, then maybe it's time to stock up before it's gone.

Of course it will. Windows 8 sucks.

1 shelf 4 feet long dedicated to W8.

10 Shelves 20 feet long dedicated to Windows 7..............and XP

Of course it will, and for a long time, think that MS supports Windows versions 2 releases back always, so at least until Windows "9"???? 7 should be available somewhere.

Most likely, given the receipt Win8 had so far, Windows 7 will remain for a looooong time, like XP and Vista.

Agree that Win 7 will be around and be supported by MS for quite some time to come BUT I'm not so sure we'll see it on the shelves in the stores for sale alongside Win 8.

I never did see Office 2007 selling alongside Office 2010 nor Vista selling alongside Windows 7, let alone a new PC for sale with Vista installed post release.

My money is on the fact they remove Win 7 from the store shelves and it's going to become hard to get if you want it post October 25/26th.

I'm thinking contingency planning here...

According to this MS page, Vista Retail Sales ended 1 year after Win 7 was available.
Right now the dates for Windows 7 are "To be determined".

Oh
You do have to have a certain number of posts or rep level to access the VIP forum...
I thought you would be able to see it.
Here are quotes from that thread - hopefully i'm not breaking forum rules by doing this.

Another "interesting" thing is you can still buy it from the MS Australia store. A$299!!! (US$ approx = A$) for the full retail Home Premium. From the US store US$199 except you can't buy it from o'seas.

Edit: These are for downloads. No shipping costs.

One of the main reasons you can't order from any US outlet besides simply not shipping overseas would be the distribution for the US releases is different from those that are shipped out to where you are. Then you have to weigh in the EU differences if you are under that at all. Each location however will have it's own distribution.

Now for those in the US looking for some real buys on 7 at this time rather then shelling out the original $319.99 for the full version of the Ultimate edition try $159.99 which includes SP1. Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 Full Version 64-bit (Promotional Label)

That's the full retail with two dvds for the 32bit and 64bit. OEM and upgrade versions are seen for under $100US showing a hugh price drop. Where do they ship? Their FAQs page has that answer.

Quote:
How do you ship?
We ship either US Mail or Fed Ex for the United States. For Canada and Puerto Rico we ship only FedEx.
The vendor there still carries XP as well as Vista while the main retail stores generally only stock the latest. This is likely why you are seeing the discontinued notice since the stores will simply be restocking with 8 media which would be OEM for System Builders media and likely upgrade media only! Full versions will not be sold on disk according to some of the latest reports. MS made that decision in order to fight piracy and multiple installs on several machines with the same product key.

Very interesting and it looks, as I suspected, that the stores are already starting to run out their Win 7 stock in anticipation of the new release.

It will still be available by way of order, but for the average joe, we won't see it in our local store.
