If this the one you have?

    Newegg.com - lenovo G780 (21823LU) Notebook Intel Core i5 3210M(2.50GHz) 17.3" 4GB Memory DDR3 1333 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD±R/RW NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M

If so it has a slow 5400RPM hard drive. 7200RPM or a SSD would make a big difference in performance. 4GB ram should be okay.

    good morning
i was on the phone last night for 3 hours with a very informative lenovo tech, who helped me install the lenovo recovery dvd. it did not have the drivers on it. we had to find and install them separately. good job, i couldn't do this myself.
now it is up and running and no garbage. it runs much faster. i'm going to keep it. i still have updates to install. i hope this doesn't slow it down. ztruker this is the one i ordered.
    thank you pothound

Thanks for the info pothound! :)
Good to hear that your problem was fixed..
newegg upped the price by $30... so will probably wait for it to go down again...

Did you try running any graphics hungry games on it??

Sounds like you did a Clean Reinstall since Factory Recovery wouldn't need drivers. Always accept all Important and Optional Windows Updates to get the latest drivers and important hotfixes.

You really didn't need all of those hours on the phone with Lenovo since you were early in this thread linked to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which will get and maintain a much better install than any OEM Support can help you get.

To be sure you've got it as lean and mean as possible I'd go through the steps to
Clean Up Factory Bloatware to at least assure a Clean Boot.

i called newegg. they are willing to let me return it. this is the second one i return. the 1st one had a bad display.
murphy's law. i need to think about it.

You may wish to Clean Up Factory Bloatware, when you receive your new computer.

The software which comes preinstalled, can cause reduce the performance of operating system and cause problems in the future.

This is only a suggestion, feel free to make your own decision.

Hope you find no problems with the new computer,

    Harry
BlueRobot is giving you good advice there.

I had a similar problem with a HP Pavilion DV7 2 years ago. Removed all the HP bloat, hey Presto! A speedy, smooth lappy.

hi, sorry it took so long. vaaron, i tried to watch masterpiece theatre on this laptop and it was bad. i cannot stream on it. it is either to slow or graphic problem. i called lenovo tech and found out that there is no nvidia geforce 630m video installed on this computer. it is a replacement. the first one had a defective display, and this unit came with windows premium 32bit, and no graphics card. [murphy's law] it had a rebate, which we sent in, so i'm hoping newegg will come thru with a solution for the proper replacement.
i just discovered this yesterday. it seemed ok other than the graphics problem.
    thank you pothound
