    bootmgr missing

Tried startup repair several times. The system reserved partition now has C: label and the windows partition (SSD) now has a D: label. Cannot find a way to reconfigure to allow a boot. Thanks for any suggestions.

First, Mark the system reserved partition as actibe using the method two or method three of the tutorial : Partition - Mark as Active

Then, Run Startup Repair for three separate times, with restarts after every single run.

Let us know if it is booting properly or not. If not, follow all the steps properly mentioned in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot.

    set partition active

Still does not boot. "Startup repair could not detect a problem"

When booting, if I set CDROM to the first boot device and if it times out past the prompt to push any key to boot CD, then it boots into W7 with a black screen and text at the bottom saying it is an illegal copy. I can CTRL-ALT-DEL and login or out but cannot do anything else.

Should I still run all the steps in the boot thread 1 at a time until it works or will I make matters worse or ???

I have the CD and the key and I am a technet member

    bcdedit shows the following:

    boot manager
    identifier bootmgr
    device partition c:
    path \bootmgr
    description windows boot manager
    locale en-us
    default default
    displayorder default
    timeout 30

    windows boot loader
    identifier default
    device partition=D:
    path \windows\system32\winload.exe
    description windows 7 Ultimate recovered
    locale en-us
recovery sequence (a bunch of number and letter)
    recoveryenabled yes
    osdevice partition=D:
    systemroot \windows
    resumeobject (more numbers and letters)

also when I run bootrec /scanos it says 0 total identifed windows installations.
same when running bootrec /rebuildbcd, says there are 0 installations.

How did your drive letters change? What operation were you running when it happened?

In rare cases Win7 will slip drive letters when being reimaged or repaired. If that's the case you can correct it using Use FREE Rescue Kit Express | PARAGON Software Group

Boot the Paragon CD - select Normal Mode , then Boot Corrector.

Correct drive letters in the system registry.

Release the incorrect letter first, if necesssary.
