Administrative Tools Shortcut on Start menu

Today I put Administrative Tools to start menu


I checked both because I wanted to delete the one in programs cause I wanted to have only one on the start (the right side)



When I deleted it from programs menu, the one I left stopped working.(could not open)

So then I found out ,that they cant work without each other.

So i went to check if the Administrative Tools on CP works, and it didnt.

Thanks God I didnt delete the one that I deleted from recycle bin, so I restored it and it was OK.

Im asking you:
Is that Ok ,if you delete the Administrative tools from programs menu or anywhere else and than it stops working. I mean this is shortcut
and not a real folder, so if you delete it ,the original Administrative tools should be untouched.

I think this should not happened

I did the exact same thing only I emptied the recycle bin. Now I have no access to the Administrative Tools. Does anyone know how to either restore these items or have any suggestions about what I should do?

The first thing I tried was putting in a spare drive and re-installing Windows 7 there. I copied what I thought was the correct folder (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools) and then switched back to the original drive. I copied the folder to the same location and it didn't seem to change anything (now that I'm thinking about it I never tried re-booting the machine which might have made it work).

Anyway, using the system restore point wasn't really an option since I deleted the folder early on and had installed a bunch of applications after that. I did test the system restore option though, using the spare drive, and it would work if you hadn't made too many other changes after deleting it.

I ended up using the repair install option which seemed to work perfectly. One thing I did notice is that the repair install takes MUCH longer than the original install. Also, it was nice enough to tell me that I would need to re-install my video card drivers which seems to be the only thing that didn't stay intact with the "upgrade".

Since I had saved off the administrative folder from the 64 bit version of Windows 7 I'll add it here in case anyone else down the road could use it.

I did just get the x64 folder from one of my other computers and edited my post to include it, before I noticed that you had added it. lol

It's probably better that way anyway, so someone looking has both versions in the same posting. :)
