Weird problem with Taskbar windows in Excel

Okay, so I have a problem with opening windows in Excel from the taskbar

Whenever I highlight over Excel, and say I have two excel files open, Little pop-up windows show up for both when hovered over the Excel Icon.

I am unable to Left-Click on the windows to open any document, but I am able to Right-Click. It doesn't do this with any other programs, word, firefox, etc...

    Reboot did nothing.
    Closing the program did nothing.

Any help would be great, I have tried to look up this problem and found nothing.

    Hi mike,

Could you explain the issue a little better. I understand the Aero preview (little pop-up windows when you hover).

Do the real Excel document windows toggle focus ( come into focus / go out of focus) when you hover over the preview windows?

What happens when you right click?
What do you mean "unable to open any document" - do you mean one of the Excel documents you have opened or a new Excel document.

Thanks and welcome to seven forums.

Yes you can focus on each document when hovered over each, but clicking on the little pop-up window does nothing when using left-click like other windows. Right Clicking goes to the document fine.

By unable to open document, I meant bringing that excel document to the front of my screen. Right-clicking brings it to front, left clicking does nothing.

    Sorry for the poor explaination

How is "Show all windows in the taskbar" configured? You might try toggling the option on and off to see how that affects the Aero preview. There are a number of reports specific to Excel, for quite a while.

If the box is ticked, remove the tick,
[ ] Excel Options -> Advanced-> "Show all windows in the taskbar"

    otherwise tick the box
[X] Excel Options -> Advanced-> "Show all windows in the taskbar"

    save changes and exit Excel.

What happens now with aero peek and two Excel documents opened? If it works, great, if not
    - restart your system and toggle the option again

If the box is ticked, remove the tick,
[ ] Excel Options -> Advanced-> "Show all windows in the taskbar"

    otherwise tick the box
[X] Excel Options -> Advanced-> "Show all windows in the taskbar"

    save changes and exit Excel.

    Any luck? No?
    - restart your system and try two Excel docs again - any change?

MS Search Results might help - I found the above in one of the results

Not necessarily poor wording - could be poor understanding on my part

When I don't quite understand, I ask for clarification.

Didn't realize it was part of Windows Aero.

I will try the above steps when I get to my laptop again, I will get back to you. Thanks for the help

    ok mike,

I just clicked on my "helpful" MS search results above and got different search results. Much different.

Maybe this search directly on MS Answers will be more direct.

Anyway, there seems to be a lot of folks out there with a similar problem. See if the "show all windows..." solution helps in your case. I found lots of explanations on why Excel has this issue and lots of Excel/Taskbar/Aero issues.

Could you fill in your system specs a little bit - the folks around here made it easy - click on the "Easy specs" link in my sig.

and it would help if I knew what version of Office you're running - some problems are version specific - thanks
