Only program that has been installed is a game (Borderlands 2). A few Windows updates, but that's it.

Well then I'd look into what that game starts at Win startup. Could be it is loading some type of Update system that is always running.

If that's the case, then how can my monitor sleep when the computer isn't locked? It isn't consistent.

The monitor isn't turning off, Locked or unlocked, for the same reason. It is the same process or running program that is stoping it from turning off. You have to find what that program/process is. More then likely it has something to do with that game you installed.

Sorry I don't know how to make it any clearer and I don't know what the program/process may be.

Unlocked - Monitor goes to sleep in 10 minutes
Locked - Monitor stays at lock screen forever unstill unlocked

It does go to sleep, but only when unlocked.

Ok i had the same prob on one of my PC's after a update i had ages ago it was down to (wmpnetwk.exe "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service")
how i fixed it was Control Panel >> All Control Panel Items >> Power Options >> Edit Plan Settings >> Change advanced power settings > Multimedia settings > When sharing media set to [ Allow the computer to sleep ] Or [ Allow the computer to enter Away Mode ]

XP had a prob with screensaver and main user account if the screensaver was off on the main user account but all other account's was on Monitor sleep was disabled at lock screen but was fine when unlocked and enabling a screensaver on the main user account at lock screen Monitor sleep was enabled and out of my 3 pc's at that time it only happend to two of them << weird bug so you may want to check that out as well for win 7

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, it did not work. I allowed the computer to sleep, tested the monitor to see if it would sleep. Nothing. I also forced disabled WMP network sharing via services.msc, restarted, and tested again. Didn't work.

I appreciate the post.

Locked computer dual monitor
I've seen a thread on this but I couldn't find an answer (there might not be one). ANYWAYS, when I lock my computer, my right monitor turns to a black screen instead of displaying the background of my lock screen. The screen doesnt turn off (its not to save power) as I can still move my...

Monitor not recognized when computer resumes from sleep mode
I'm not sure if this is a video card issue (AMD Radeon HD 6770), driver issue or monitor issue. I just rebuilt my system (Win7 Pro 64 bit) and everything has been functioning correctly for about two day. Now, when my computer resumes from sleep mode, my resolution defaults to 600 x 800 and says it...

Computer waking up from Sleep when I turn on monitor
Hi, my new pc does a strange thing, at least I find it strange because it's new: when the pc is on standby and I turn on the monitor, the pc wakes up. Now I don't mind this behavior, it is useful even, but I was wondering if it is documented somewhere because I had no idea this was possible and...

CRT Monitor locked at 60hz.
Hi, I just bought a new PC but I didn't buy a monitor. So I hooked my new rig to my old ADI Microscan 15 inch CRT monitor (don't laugh :p and I don't remember the model number). Now the refresh rate is locked at 60hz even if I uncheck the "Hide Unsupported Modes" option. With the old rig I could...

Monitor will not sleep when computer does
