HELP File Security Issue!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone. New to the forum here. Glad to find one as great as this. Anyways heres the deal.

I am trying to backup very important file from my Toshiba Satellite Laptop via external HD and flash drives. But it seems like every time I hook something up to it, it says write protected. So I went to properties of the C Drive, then to security and then permissions to check all the allow boxes as they are all unchecked. When I click okay here are the various error messages I receive:

===============================================================
An error occurred while applying security information to:
C:/hiberfil.sys
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
===============================================================
An error occurred while applying security information to:
C:/pagefile.sys
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
===============================================================
An error occurred while applying security information to:
C:/Program Files
Access Denied
===============================================================
An error occurred while applying security information to:
C:/Program Files (x86)
Access Denied
===============================================================
An error occurred while applying security information to:
C:/Windows
Access Denied
===============================================================

Also in the background behind that the first error box is another box titled,

"Windows Security"
Setting security information on:
C:\$AVG\$VAULT

I'm totally stumped as to what this means. Also I don't know if it helps but the hiberfil.sys an pagefile.sys are both checked in my startup as startup items.

Any help will be much appreciated THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Basically, Do Not change permissions for those files and folders. it is very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very bad juju. So bad that I typed out all of those verys instead of copying and pasting.

The fact that there is something changing the settings on"C:\$AVG\$VAULT" is somewhat troubling, as that's a folder that AVG Antivirus moves quarantined files to, such as suspected viruses. Does this error box pop up only when you try to change the settings?

What file are you trying to backup?
Is it a document or is it a system file?
Is it in your documents folder or is it in the root of your hard drive?

What is write protected?
Is it the file that you want to back up, or is it the drive you want to copy the file to?
How exactly are you performing the act of backing up the file?

What brought you to the conclusion that you had to change the permissions of the system folders and files in order to back up the file?

I'm just trying to back up personal file from folders off my desktop. Ive copied and transfered files with my hard drive and flash drive all the time. Now all the sudden its saying write protected

I just drag the files onto the drive and it pops up write protected...
