Windows 7, Multiple Browsing Windows, sfc /scannow not fixing.

Howdy all. Recently I ran into an issue with Windows opening new file browsing windows every time I try to open a folder/directory. The option is set to open new windows in the existing one, but does nothing. While this may be a relatively minor issue I was afraid it might be signs of something more severe.

So far, I've ran a virus scan (AVG) which came up clean, restore pointed Windows to prior to the problem by 7 days and the problem persisted, and rand sfc /scannow several times with some reboots, and yet it continues.

The sfc /scannow is coming up with corrupt files that it can't fix. I've tried to look over the log file, and can see that there are several files that are coming up that it can't fix. However, not being exactly a tech wiz myself, I figured I would see if someone here could led assistance.

I attached my CBS.log file. If anyone could point me in the right direction in fixing the issue or at least identifying it I would greatly appreciate any and all help.

Hiyya and welcome Swd did you try a chkdsk mate?

Couple of ways via command prompt

    Disk Check

    or this

    Disk Check

Tip (I like this) type in msconfig / regedit / command prompt in Search > right click on each one as you type each separately > add to quick start menu - saves a lot of typing

Hiya, thanks for the reply ICit2lol. I ran a Disk Check on reboot, restarted, let it run, and the problem is still persisting. Even ran it a 2nd time to boot just in case.

here's an old windows trick that sometimes works--go into folder options and change to open each folder in new window--restart--check that it does open each in new window--then change it back-to open in same window--restart again.

Long shot but maybe worth running a Seatools HDD test mate and also a surface check with the Partition Wizard just in case it is some plain physical problem.

Best Free Partition Manager Freeware and free partition magic for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition. < watch out for those annoying ads for add ons - pains to get rid of < choose rive > check the surface test and run.
SeaTools | Seagate < just check the right OS first > tick the drive and run
