Freezing computer with corrupted C Drive leads to a deleted partition?
Hi everyone, I didn't know where to put this as this is my first post so bare with me.
About 3 months ago, I got a "new" computer from my dad who had just did a re-installation of Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit. It was working great until I got a virus. I ran CCleaner as well as Spybot S&D but no immediate threats were found. The C drive took a turn for the worst and my computer started freezing frequently every time I would use it, so I would manually shut down (This is a desktop computer) and then reboot and everything would be fine until it froze again. That's around the time when my computer started asking me if I wanted to check my disk, but I declined for the first few times, then finally gave up because my computer was pretty much in the toilet. It could still boot up, but the freezing became so bad that I didn't want to use it.
That's when my computer started going straight to startup repair. That started freezing as well, too, so I thought, "Forget this, I'm going to manually check my recovery options." and then had to deal with the C partition not even being recognized and a cyclic redundancy check and my computer yelling at me and saying that my .NET Framework was missing a file. I searched "Infinite Startup Repair Loop" and tried to fix it in the command prompt, but that was a cyclic redundancy check as well.
I left it alone for a while, maybe a few weeks, and then it magically started working again. The C drive was still corrupted, but I could at least boot up with about 3 freezes every time I used it. It started getting to the point where I could barely use it because it was freezing so much, so, I figured I would save the files I really wanted (My Sims 3 folders because I'm a nerd) and then install windows again. I put a flash drive in and cut and pasted my game folder onto the flash drive but my computer decided to freeze in the middle of the transfer so with rage I manually shut down my computer. I booted from my Windows 7 64 bit install disk and was all ready to install when right before it finished, my computer froze once again. I googled to make sure it was safe to turn it off and then restart the installation, (which in hindsight was really not the best idea) and then tried to install again. But this time, it told me that it couldn't reinitialize the deployment engine or something, so I looked to find a solution, and that brought me to GParted. I loaded that up onto a disk and booted my computer. It found my partition, but I wanted to save my Sims 3 folders because the stuff I needed didn't move to the flash drive. So, being stupid, I said to myself, "I'll just restart the computer and google a file explorer so that I can get my sim." Now, GParted can't find the partition and I think it got deleted and so I'm installing Windows 7 again but it's frozen. Any advice? Will I ever get my sims family back?!
Note: I do consider myself to be pretty technologically handy, so nothing is too advanced.
Tl,Dr: I used a partition manager and now I think my computer's dead.
