Maybe the chkdsk once more candora if yo didn't do it before.

I prefer to run it from command prompt but the choice is yours:)

ICit2lol, I ran scandisk a couple of times through Windows7 and a utility that I have, scanning both partitions of the hard drive. I'm not aware of any errors that were found and I'm still having trouble. Let me know if you have any other ideas. Thank you for your help.

To help see whats actually going on when you're deleting files run the problem step recorder. Run through everything that you're doing when you delete the file. Then attach the zip file to the forum by clicking on the paperclip.

How to Use Problem Steps Recorder in Windows 7

After you do that go into event viewer, and take a screenshot or snippet of the output.

    Click Start orb.
In Search box type in Event Viewer Press enter.
Once Event viewer opens on the left column click windows logs, then click system.
If any errors are occurring when you're tying to delete a file they will show up.

Make sure you view event viewer right after you delete the file.

Upload both the Screenshot and the zip file created.

Now I don't know candora but am wondering if this happens in safe mode?

Also am wondering if you have run any "Cleaner / Tune up" apps just lately?

Um I have also just noticed that Xplorer 2 app you say you added. Now a Google comes up with it is a file management system - maybe just maybe that is the problem??

parman - I can give that a try. Obviously I won't be able to stop the recorder once I delete a file since the computer freezes up for 30-60 seconds, which is what the issue is. Does that Problem Steps Recorder generate some kind of system log, or is it only screen shots? If it is only screen shots then the only thing it will record is once I have confirmed I want to delete/send something to the recycle bin it will show the cursor turning into a little blue circle that spins for about a minute while I wait for my computer to start responding again. No error messages or dialogues pop up.

ICit2lol - I haven't tried this in safe mode, I'll have to look up how to reboot the laptop into safe mode since I haven't done that with Win7 before. It's worth a shot.

I do have TuneUp Utilities 2012 on my computer, and it runs periodically. Once this started happening I ran pretty much every scan and defragmenter that it has.

In regards to the last question: yes, that was my initial thought. I'm not very tech savvy anymore, but from what I gathered in a Google search the problem sounded like a Windows file management system error/problem. But, even using a different program to manage and delete my files outside of Explorer didn't seem to make any difference. So, I have since uninstalled it (btw, uninstalling programs seems to operate normally, I just can't delete files).

keep the recorder running until the computer unfreezes. Then stop the recorder. Then go into your Event viewer and take a screen shot of that, from post 26 above. Post both the zip file report and the screen shot.

When the PC is booting before you see the windows screen press F8. Then just choose safe mode
