Recent Places Folder: Show Full Path?

Hi - first-time poster looking for help (Googling did not turn up the answer):

I have numerous clients whose info I keep in folders / subfolders with a set naming convention. As a result, my Recent Places list shows many (sub)folders all with the same name, which isn't very helpful. Is there a way I can include the path to the folders in the Recent Place list to differentiate them? It would greatly increase my productivity! (BTW, I've tried using the folder columns available by right-clicking on the column names in Recent Places - both Folder path and Path return only C:\Users\[username]\App_Data\Roaming... (i.e. the location of the shortcut) vs. the actual path to the true folder).

Did you ever discover a solution? It's definitely a problem not knowing where a Recent Places shortcut refers to.

Hi Blaq - Unfortunately, no. I haven't figured out a solution, so the issue is still open...

I'm still having this problem. Anyone find a solution? I've tried all of the folder fields and "location" and none of them is it. What's frustrating is that it shows up in the tooltip. It's out there someplace.

Okay, I couldn't stand it anymore, so I started looking somewhat meticulously through the available "columns."

The answer is . . . [drum roll] "Link target."

If you look in the shortcut properties, there's something called "Target." I had looked for that and for "shortcut target" and at "location." But combing through, I finally found it. Here's a sample of what mine looks like:

Aw shucks. You're quite welcome. I asked a couple of IT guys and a fellow geek in the department and no one knew--and, probably, really cared. But it was driving me crazy. I'm surprised Microsoft doesn't say anything (that I could find). Hopefully this will help others too. So, thanks for creating the thread in the first place.

Yes -

Recent Items (details view)
> right-click on column headers
> More
> checkbox Link Target
> OK

adds a new column to the Details view with the full path address. Yay!
Except, unfortunately, this solution only works for me temporarily. I am not sure why, but the view is always reset to the default columns when I return. Does anyone have an idea how to make this stick?

Dabbz, I thought is was unrelated to the Link Target column per se and I was right. A bit of Googling revealed this problem/solution: Fix: Windows 7 forgets Folder View settings Windows can only remember settings for so many folders. Perhaps you have exceeded this limit. This articles shows what registry entry to change.

This might have been 2 problems then. Both now seem to be fixed

In addition, to make doubly-sure I was customizing the system "Recent" folder, I did this:

Navigated to
(1) ...\{user home folder}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\
and customized the view (also making sure it's sorted by "Date Modified")

(2) ...\{user home folder}\Links\Recent Places\
and double-checked the view

Crossing my fingers now.
