Laptop restarts when pressing shut down button.

    Hello!
I have a DELL XPS 17 Laptop. Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Recently my laptop has been restarting itself when I shut it down. It would shut down normally but after 1 second, it turns on by itself. I've checked "events" and I have "Event 41 : Kernal Power" . How do I fix this? PLEASE and thank you for your help! .

    Welcome to Seven Forums.

    Try the following:
    Power Button - Start Menu

Don't forget to change power button action to Shutdown.

    Hi,

Please follow a few more steps that should fix this issue:

Disable the “Automatic Restart Option” in Startup and Recovery .To prevent the system from automatically restarting when a STOP error occurs:
    · Right-click on “My Computer”, click “Properties”.
    · Click the “Advanced” tab; click the “Settings” button in the “Startup and Recovery” section.
    · In “Startup and Recovery”, clear the “Automatically restart” box in the “System failure” section.

Go to Device Manager. Look for network adapter/s, right click and select "Properties". In the "Power Management" tab(s), uncheck "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby".

Download and Install the Latest BIOS by clicking on the URL mentioned: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection?fkey=Drivers_PS

Please reply if you have any further questions.

Try this: Right click the 'start' button, then select 'Properties', then select Start menu and then the "Power button action" - select 'shut down' and press OK
