'Access Denied' when trying to add file to C:\Windows\servicing\

Hi everybody! For some reason the file 'TrustedInstaller.exe' went missing and kept causing errors when trying to install updates.

Anyways, every time I try to paste that file into the windows servicing folder, it tells me access is denied and I don't have permission to this folder. I'd also like to add that I'm the admin of this computer.

Any suggestions? I really wanna get this fixed. Thank you in advanced

edit: I have tried using the program 'Unlocker', but nothing happend. I also tried right clicking on the folder and go to properties and change the ownership to full control, but it wouldn't let me. The words were grayed out.

Hello mermaidxlove, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You may be able to do a system restore at boot using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened to hopefully fix this.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi there! Thanks for your reply

I've had this problem since last October so the restore point is now gone.

I found out that the current owner of the folder is "TrustedInstaller". Is it safe to change the ownership to my account?

Here's a screenshot:

Yes, step 3 in OPTION THREE in the tutorial below can help show you more on this if you like.

Take Ownership of file - Vista Forums

After you get everything sorted, you should set the ownership of the servicing folder back to TrustedInstaller to prevent unauthorized access (ex: from malware).
