Lost abilty to use typed instruction in start box

inability to search via start also VBS script problem Solved:
My last resort on the problem blow was to use a 250gb image of my system made a few months ago..but in frustration and by chance I found an old registry backup from ERUNT for the 30th Dec 2010..I thought oh well all or nothing..so I restored it via ERUNT and by gum all was well..I had all facilities that I had before including VBS reset to read scripts. So it looks like it was a registry error for sure..or maybe more than one?

I want to thank you all for scratching your heads for me..I appreciate your time and effort..and professionalism

All of a sudden I have lost the ability to use typed instructions into the start box . Like for instance I used to be able to type services.msc and away it would go..now I have to use the run facility then type in the instruction..same for reg edit etc....anyone know how I can get the facility back. not sure how I lost it..no new software

The second pic is when I type say regedit into the search box.. I get the white panel showing programs etc as you can see..depending on what I type gives me more or less option to choose from in the panel..sometime all options like picture documents etc...

When I select and click to any of the panel options heading (say programs) open to see what happens I get the first pic the orange error pic.. Hope this helps...

As an aside ..how does one use the 'snipping tool' for this sort of capture..when I select tool and an option say rectangle..OK I am fine but when I open start search type in... I lose the typing tool facility to capture..anyone help here......is there a hot key..I use the 'windows' key but to open start but then what..as soon as I type I lose snipping use..

I had to use the old fashioned print screen ..it worked tho

Maybe you need to rebuild the index?

Take a look at the second video: Windows Search - Configure and Use

    Here's another way.:
    1. Open Indexing Options by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type indexing options, and then click Indexing Options.
    2. Click Advanced. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    3. In the Advanced Options dialog box, click the Index Settings tab, and then click Rebuild. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

The reason it was marked solved is because you said thank you and it seemed like it was fixed because you no longer asked for help until you posted this comment a few hours later

Can you show us a screenshot fo the Start Menu search results? Here is how you can capture the screen with the start menu and results showing:

This is the link to the page where the image was snipped...more info there.

    Edit:
    Sorry, forgot to post link:
