Missing files after copy and paste

I recently did an image recovery {using a windows system image} it is an image I created myself.
I periodically back up my files {pictures docs music etc} on an external hard drive and on an extra partition within my machine.
Ok so far so good.
I copied over my files to the external/ and the D partition on my machine prior to the recovery with the image.
After the recovery I can not see the last files that I copied over...neither on the external HD or within D on the internal drive.
The only files that show after the copy and paste after the recovery are the bookmark files I copied over.

Before I did the recovery I could see the files on both drives that I copied to.
I booted a knoppix live cd and could not see them with it either.

I know they are there as I created them and saw them before the image recovery.

Any help will be appreciated in forcing the drives to read the files.
