    windows 8 - I don't have ANY apps so why bother?

    all I have on win 7 is programs and their data files. NO APPS. sounds like win 8 would be a total waste of time. in all these online promos for win 8 there is hardly ever any mention of programs or how one would use them. The point of win 8 seems to be to sell those apps to people who don't have or need any lol, not just be an operating system.

    Hello msongs,

    You can still use most of your same programs from Windows 7 in Windows 8 the same way. In Windows 8, you can use Store apps (Metro UI) and desktop programs (apps).
    If you got the HDD space, you could set up a dual boot with a 90-day evaluation of Windows 8 Enterprise version for a test drive if you like.

    Download Windows 8 Enterprise Evaluation

    Programs == Applications == Apps
    Same thing.

    I'm very confused by your question. Assuming you wanted to go with Windows 8, why not just install the programs/apps that you need? It's no different than any other version of Windows, aside from the UI of the screens, and the addition of an app store to find and quickly add additional apps easily. Linux has done this for years, and any smartphone/tablet you would have right now works in the same way.
