Anybody know what Rebecca.exe is? HP Recovery Manager

I'm doing HP Recovery Manager Disc copying to a USB flash drive and in Task Manager>Performance>Resource Monitor>Disk it says Rebecca.exe is reading 9.3 MB/sec while System is writing 9.3 MB/sec.

Is this a Friday bug? LOL

A Google search with the search term "Rebecca.exe" produces several results. Did you try using Google? Did you check the results? If not, that would be a good starting point.

    I was being a little forum-centric.

BTW, this USB 2.0 flash drive is being read at about 55 MB/sec during the verify portion of this program.
It took about half an hour just to copy the stuff to the flash drive in the first place. I would recommend flash drive HP recovery over DVD discs anyday.

It took about 15 minutes to verify the USB stick. So, 45-50 minutes total.

Right click on that file open properties and look at the details tab. It might have been made for use by HP.

Rebecca is HP's x64 recovery - it links back to the x86 recovery app.

I wondered the same thing when I first got my X64 HP machine.

    Rebecca.exe real HP or fake?

So it sounds like the answer is that Rebecca.exe is actual HP software? Just checking because when I saw Rebecca.exe come up when I tried to get my computer back to a previous restore point I assumed my computer got a virus and took the computer back to the factory settings. When I did that and checked the HP Recovery Manager, before connecting to the internet, it says it's HP Recovery Manager that's going to run in the regular blue and white box coloring theme rather than the yellow themed box that comes up saying the Publisher is unknown on the harddrive that Rebecca.exe comes up with. I think it maybe something to do with Norton security that comes with the factory settings, but not sure. Other websites have people suggesting there is something wrong.

I'm wondering if anyone has had the nerve to go ahead and let Rebecca.exe run and could they report the results...did everything run OK after that?

Rebecca.exe is a real HP program. Part of HP Recovery application, methinks.

I looked it up once a while ago (my laptop is a dv6) but can't find a good reference now.

Search Hp.com - lots of the same questions as yours.
