Network Storage Access password wont stick

Hi all,

Have a slight niggle i was hoping someone might help me with

I have a NAS drive plugged in to my network switch along with two pcs and couple network printers etc(all wired connection)

The problem i have is that i have mapped a network drive using Z: so i have icon on desktop pointing to NAS box but every time i click it on one PC in particular it asks for username and password even though i click remember details it never will and to make it more annoying every time it launchs it opens the Z: drive explorer window (blank till i put password in) in front of password input box

All other machines i use to access drive local and remote work fine just this one
This machine is also 64bit where as others are 32 if that is relevant and all are W7

Thanks in advance for any input you may have its greatly appreciated

Paul

Have you considered remedying it by running a startup script in the group policy of the machine that is set to map the drive newly with the password?

Well you could probably get the password to save. I honestly don't know how you would manage it though, but I would assume it would involve a lot of trial and error that may or may not just leave the issue open for possibility again.

Remedying it with a startup script using gpedit.msc would just be easier and faster, and I would personally use it as a troubleshooting step to see whether the password is actually being deleted or not.

Ok sounds like a plan

So i can see where to put the script in windows settings, startup scripts

Not sure how to make it/best entry, im thinking

net use Z: \\86.***.197.223\Volume_1

do i need to add /persistent:yes

how do i add user/pass to this ?? and how do i create it ??

Thanks Paul

Excellent!

No, you do not need /persistent:yes since this script will be running every time the system is started.
You should unmount the network drive every time you startup so that it doesn't just give off an error that you won't see.

net use Z: /delete
And this is how you add a password to the command:

Quote:
net use Z: \\LuzTeTT-PC\Server /user:Guest "guestpassword"
Happy networking!
