Don't buy Windows 8 right away with Paypal. Windows 8 Pro is now available to purchase directly from Microsoft for $40.
However it seems you can only purchase it through the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant that you have to download, which checks your system first.
I used this utility and paid through paypal. But once the transaction was finished in paypal, the application went to an error screen which doesn't let you go back or do anything except exit.
Paypal and my bank account both say that the transaction is completed, but I never recieved any email, and after calling Microsoft they have no record of my transaction. Hopefully it goes through in the next few hours, but in the meantime wait a bit as the servers are overloaded.

So i'm clear. All you need is a copy of either XP, Vista, or Windows installed on a PC and nothing else right? No other qualifications needed? Quote: We set out to make it as easy as possible for everyone to upgrade to Windows 8. Starting at general availability, if your PC is running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 you will qualify to download an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for just $39.99 in 131 markets. And if you want, you can add Windows Media Center for free through the “add features” option within Windows 8 Pro after your upgrade. Also, what if I just want to purchase for now, but install later. Will I be able to do that with the upgrade assistant?
Thanks. Just want to make sure I qualify before purchase. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by me OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i7-950 (3.06GHz) OC to 3.8GHz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 rev 1, F6 Bios Memory 12 gig Corsair DDR3 Dominator GT Memory (3X 4GB) Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD6950 2gig (Sapphire) Sound Card X-Fi Titanium Fatality Pro Monitor(s) Displays HP ZR22w 22" LCD Monitor Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech Wireless Wave Mouse Logitech Performance MX PSU Antec Signature - SG-850 Case Cooler Master HAF X Cooling Noctua NH-C12P SE14 Hard Drives Primary - OCZ Vertex 4 SSD (256GB). Thanks. Just want to make sure I qualify before purchase. I don't know for sure. I haven't gotten that far.
But I assume that upon successful completion you will receive an email with your activation Key and possibly a link to the iso.
Also: I just discovered that you use the same setup to do the $15 upgrade for recently bought computers, only that you have to register your computer first to get a discount code.
If only Microsoft would let me use my Virtual Visa, then I wouldn't have this problem (they don't let you, but Paypal does and Microsoft lets you use paypal). | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Apple 17" iMac MA199LL (Early 2006) OS Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (upgrade) CPU 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo Memory 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) (upgrade) Graphics Card ATI Radeon X1600 with 128MB GDDR3 memory Monitor(s) Displays 17-inch TFT active-matrix LCD, millions of colors Screen Resolution 1440 x 900 Keyboard Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600 Mouse Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse v2.0 Hard Drives Hitachi 320GB HDT721032SLA360 7200RPM SATA II (upgrade) Internet Speed 4 Mbps Antivirus Microsoft Security Essentials Browser Google Chrome Other Info WEI:

Thanks. Just want to make sure I qualify before purchase. Yes MS has said it will give you a choice to Install Now or save as an ISO.

Well I only build my computers and haven't bought anything laptop wise so I guess I'm out of that deal.

I have a paypal account, but I also have a Visa card as well. Are you saying you can't use a regular credit card? Doesn't sound right as I'm pretty sure you can use a credit card, but... @ SIW2, I was kind of thinking the same thing but for $40 bucks I can have a copy should I want to upgrade later @ Phonman, thanks cause I really don't want to install it yet. BTW is there link somewhere on that. Thanks.
