Hey guys, i recently bought my new pc not to long ago, its second hand and runs ok..I had windows vista installed on it when i bought it, but i have downloaded a copy of windows 7 ultimate, right now the computer installed windows 7 ultimate fine with no error's, i came to go and download the 133 updates that im guessing happens through Windows Update..Now i have installed all the updates and every time my PC boots up i get a black screen? Where there is no mouse curser or anything to click on, I have searched for ages this morning on how to find a fix or how to get around this, does anybody know how?, honestly id buy you a beer if you could help me out right now!,

    Kind regards, Cris
My experience has been that, as much as you may not want to here this, it is better to reinstall the OS in this type of situation. You can attempt trying to second guess what will work, which is generally very time consuming and very often ends with the "Time to reinstall scenario" anyway.

Regardless of how you handle the current problem, I suggest for future reference, never install updates en masse. Many of them require a reboot and when several updates are attempting to make changes during one reboot there can and very often is conflict. My best practice method is to install updates "one at a time" and when a reboot is required I reboot before proceeding. Of course, this takes longer, but generally prevents conflict problems.

Alright cheers for the info, yer i just want it sorted out, i got my elgato games capture hd come today and have not got a chance to get around to turning the god damn computer on let alone do anything else. I shall give it a try, also would the problem be that the windows 7 i downloaded was a self activating iso?. it was a torrent as i lost my original windows 7 Home.

i clicked on "Safe Mode", and it come up with loads of white writting checking windows system 32 drivers then the blue screen and an error saying "Failure configuring Windows updates..reverting and boots it up into safe mode?.
Shit there are still windows updates to be be post configured. Not possible in safe mode.

Did you see "repair your computer" in the menu? after pressing F8
If so activate "repair your computer", logon there and select "system restore". Select the most recent "restore point". So go back to just before the windows updates started to install. Did you install any drivers yourself just before installing windows updates but after last succesfull boot?

If it boots succesfully now: as soon as possible disable automatic updates! Turn automatic updating on or off

    post results
I dont see "repair your computer"
    It has the options..
    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode With Networking
    Safe Mode With Command Prompt

    Enable Boot Logging
    Enable Low-res video
    Last known good config
    Directory Services restore mode..
Boot from win7 install DVD and do a system restore System Restore option TWO
    again post results

Yes from a torrent, and no i guniuenly bought windows ultimate from pc world, and the disc and the case is no where to be seen, so i only resulted into downloading it again.
Is the self activating one bad to use then?. im using a 32 bit machine.

Buy I new productkey. I can't help you with illegal activities. But wait....

You ever installed ultimate before with valid key. Is that OS still in a partition? Or backup?

Windows 7 "starting Windows" Black Screen.

guys, im really stuck here, i had this problem earlier on, and i made a post but i still have not got rid or sorted it out, i've done a fresh install of Windows Home Premium on 32 bit pc, its loaded up fine, im with a asus motherboard and amd graphic's card. i go into controll panel then go to check for updates, then it gives me a good 117 updates, of which are security updates..so i click on all..i wait about half hour for them to all install, it goes into reboot, and loads up the bios etc etc, comes to the "starting windows screen", then it flashes and goes completely black, with no cursor or anything, as if its stuck, i dont know what to do as this is like the 5th time ive done a system restore, and 3rd time doing a fresh install, it works all fine up till the point where i have to get updates, the resolution for my moniter is out of proportionate, and it only sorts it self out when i install the updates...so i don't know what to do, can somebody give me any sort of guidance. thank you! :)

I'm just repeating Kaktussoft's question here.
You used to have ULTIMATE, with a VALID key.
Do you still have that system somewhere? In a partition? Or a backup? There are methods to recover the key and it can be used to reactivate Windows with a legit version.

Found out it was a bad video card driver...Safe Mode + Device Manager + Uninstalled graphics card + Reboot = Success.
