Windows won't boot from anything

Was your GF having the black screen issue that prompted her to want to reinstall?

I think that it's better to just boot from the original OS. Then extract and run the ISO. Can't you just make another partition and install it on that, and then delete the original partition later?

If you run a Windows install from another OS it will lock out the C letter so the install is permanently booted from another letter. This is OK but not preferred by most. That's why it's suggested to always boot the installer to Clean Install Windows 7.

When he returns, I hope he just bites the bullet and does a clean install (it makes such a better machine), shows off his new found talent and takes his GF out to dinner.

I take it that that statement also refers to the original system drive.

You've got to get back into that BIOS. Does the system board have RAID built-in?

Need to see info on your motherboard, so it'd be great if you could post your specs.
