Power Saver profile doesn't turn off aero

Or more precisely aero transparency. I'm using a gateway netbook with 1.2Ghz atlon and an ATI x1270 gfx card. The drivers are from windows update. I've also tried downloading the ati drivers from their website (vista x64 were the only ones i could find) and no change.

Is there any way I can manually edit the profile settings? Maybe via registry?

I've tried EXPORTING the profile to .pow files but I have no idea how to read or edit them (tried notepad).

do you simply want to turn off aero permanently?

Hi,

No, I just want the Power saver profile to disable it. Even better I'd like windows to disable it when I'm on this (powe saver) profile ON battery power.
I will do some research to see if this can be done via task scheduler.
However I can't seem to find the correct trigger (to make the task activate on switching to power saver unplugged profile). I searched every log entry in the event viewer and didn't seem to find any event that looked like switching power profiles :(

3rd party software would be a solution but I don't want any unnecessary programs running as this is a netbook with low processing power.
