New install Windows7 Professional 64 bit problem

When I go to start> shut down, windows 7 shuts down and my monitor loses input, but my computer (fans, lights, processor, hdds, ect.) stays on completely. I have to manually hold the power button to shut down. I have checked the power settings and googled this problem but havnt had any luck. Previously ran Vista Home and no problem. Also installed 8 gig of Corsair ram previous to installing 7. purchased mosly new software other than Office2007.

Anyone have any ideas? thanks for any help!

Hello there,

In windows7 the shit down button is custumizable to either put the pc in to sleep mode or hibernate. In your case it might be set to put your pc into sleep mode rather then shutting your pc down. Here is a link to another thread on this forum to show you how to do this,
