    PDF association

I received a pdf file in email and tried to open it. The message I got said that there wasn't a program available to open it. I checked my associations and I have Adobe Reader as the association. I even open Adobe reader to be sure it was not working for some reason and Adobe started properly. What can I do aside from storing the pdf file and opening it after saving it?

Did you check the associations in IE or in Folder Options?

I used Windows associations. You did give me an idea. I use Thunderbird as my email client. I looked in options and there is a tab for file associations. For pdf files it was listed as Adobe Reader (in Thunderbird). I changed it to read Adobe Reader without the Thunderbird in parenthesis. This cured the problem. Thank you very much.

Be careful opening PDFs sent by email. A lot of malware is sent that way. Except for obvious nasties (such as delivery or nondelivery notices from FedEx, UPS, etc.), which get immediately dumped, I always verify any PDfs I receive with the sender (I use Forward instead of Reply since email addresses can be spoofed).
