You might have a look and see if you have NTUSER.DAT.BAK under your borked user account.

If you have that - you can replace the damaged ntuser.dat.

You will probably have to do that from outside - or from the super admin account.

Where is it supposed to be located?

EDIT: Never mind. The folder options are stuck with all default settings, so I can't see file extensions, hidden files, or system files

In you user directory.

If your user name is John, it will be C:\Users\John\NTUSER.DAT.BAK.

Right under the NTUSER.DAT. You might not have the .bak file - but it is worth a look.

SIW2: good suggestion, but the .BAK wasn't found. Any other tricks up your sleeve?

So under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer there is no key "advanced"
Double click on one of the attachements. One displays the menu in explorer, the other one disables them. So after running th reg file, open explorer and press F5. Does that work? Try to change the setting in user interface. If explorer shows menu in the settings it is checked as well and vice versa?
