no. the old account HKCU is gone! don't mess up the new account or worse, your machine by screwing around in the registry.

There is nothing that can't be recreated on the new account. Try it and see what you think you need.

    and I'm out.

Did you ever try what logicearth recommended?
or just dismiss it because you didn't understand and then proceed down your own path (incorrect by the way)

essentially logicearth said "delete the profile of the original user" not "delete the original user"
read the post and follow the directions, don't 2nd guess

If that doesn't work, you'll have to set the new account to your liking MANUALLY. change your wallpaper, add shortcuts to your start menu that aren't in the "all users" account, etc

    Sorry, didn't understand.
But I'm already making the new account, and nearly done customizations and data copying.
Corrupted account is already deleted and out the door.
Thanks for everybody's help, I'll mark as solved when I finish with no problems.
    Thanks!

Glad you got it sorted out, remember to backup your registry BEFORE making any changes to it. You can also create a restore point manually for extra protection. And having just had this experience, you might consider backing up your data on a periodic basis.

    Hey,
Everything works now, except for one MAJOR thing.
    I cannot create folders.
They create, but they create as files. I've followed this Microsoft Support answer, but it doesn't work.

The folders create as files with a completely blank icon label, and I am prompted to name the "folder" like normal.

    Thanks!

There are three steps in the link you referenced. Did you do all three?
After all the trouble you had with editing the registry, you decided to dive back in, huh

Did you back up the registry first? Did you create a restore point?

See if this tutorial helps - download the folder reg and dbl clcik to import it

I'd say, back up al of your personal data and product keys and do a Clean Install Windows 7
Then stay out of the registry.
