    Very slow start up

Hello, I have an HP with 8gb ram 6core 64 bit running Windows 8 pro.

I have hidden all micorosoft services and have only the necessities running at start up, pretty bare bones. It takes at least 4 minutes for the pc to start up. What could cause this, and is there a way for it to start up faster? I mean, even once I get to my desk top, it takes a few minutes before I can even click anything. I defrag once a week and I am virus free. I do have a lot of software installed, I have 600gb free out of 1tb, and none of my software runs at startup, so I am at a loss.

Sorry, my clairvoyance isn't functioning, that's why I wasn't able to make the connection about the problem occuring in Windows 7.

With that said, did you clean install the new OS?

I didn't wipe my pc if that is what you are asking. I have a system image, but it has been doing it for about 8 months, so it isn't as if it just started. I just didn't know if it was normal to take a while to start up, or if my boot order could use switching? A clean install is a complete wipe and start over correct? I have had premium, pro, ultimate, and now 8 and it has done it on all of them.

To answer the question; yes, a clean install formats the disk (wipes the data)
    OK, no clean install.

You state "I have hidden all micorosoft services and have only the necessities running at start up, pretty bare bones." Keep in mind I don't know what that means, but I am sure you do. So, what does that mean; i.e. Did you use "msconfig" and disable services there? What, in your opinion, are the necessities. Necessities to one may well be bloat to someone else.

yesh, in msconfig, under services I disabled everything except the microsoft services, I have no software running at startup either. I mean, the computer works great, the start up time is just way to long. What is a normal start up time for a desktop?

There is no benchmark test for the average startup time. Every system is going to have too many variables to set a standard. With that said, I have found the time varies from about 30 seconds, extremely fast in my opinion, to 2 or 3 minutes on average. Your time for bootup seems excessive; why, I don't know?

Have you looked at the "Event Viewer" to see if there is something there that may idenify a problem?

PS: You stated that the only issue you are experiencing is a slow startup, is that correct? If that's the only issue you have with your system, I wouldn't go messing around with it too much, because you may find in the end it will cause more harm than good. I have been using computers since the 80's and my statement is based on experience and lots of hours spent wishing I had left well enough alone.

Of course, it's your computer so do what you want.

i would say to check your system of any viruses or malwares .
secondly to prevent any un-necesseray startup programmes and u did so as u mention .
thirdly check the C partition , how much is free ?
and if it is so long back when you did a clean installation , it may be the time to do a format .
