Will vista be phased out after 10/22

This might be a stupid question, but will MS stop selling vista after 10/22? I understand they kept XP for sale because many people didn't like Vista or didn't have the hardware. Vista probably was better than XP IF you had powerful hardware, but legacy hardware ans software required XP incl. netbooks.

But W7 is better in every aspect including hardware resources. Who would buy a new OS or PC with vista when W7 is available at a comparable price?

so will they just kill it on 10/22? I can imagine the PC s at best buy and the W7 PCs just fly out the door and the vista ones collect dust (but you have to consider stupid consumers who don't know). I know, they come with W7 upgrade coupon, but which best buy costumer is able to upgrade? If they were computer-able they wouldn't be shopping there to begin with.

I found the W7 life cycle and surprisingly it says that it will be supported till 2020 (yes, all versions, not only the business versions). Vista only had that long support for business versions. Private version support including Ultimate ended after 5 years. I guess it sucks for people who bought vista... It's like MS knew no one really wants vista anyway

I suspect that Vista will be quietly allowed to tail off. Windows 7 is, in some respects, "Vista done right", as I read in an article. Microsoft probably could have sold it as "Vista SP2", except that Vista has not got a really good reputation.

I wouldn't expect to see a lot of systems touted as having Vista on them after the first of next year.

All OSes will eventually be phased out when it comes to the end of their support lifecycle. This is determined by Microsoft. Even so, there are still some die-hards out there who still use W95! Vista has already been out for 2 1/2 years, and is in SP2. XP, its predecessor, is now in SP3. Windows 7 is just around the corner, and Windows 8 is reputed to be under development. It simply costs too much to provide support for very old OSes, besides which they have difficulty running on modern hardware due to the lack of driver support.

Well, the mainstream support for vista ends in 2012. but that doesn't mean you still can buy the OS till then.

I think they will keep Vista around for businesses that want all their new PCs have the same OS and then at some time forklift all PCs to a new OS. but for the regular OEM and users they probably will stop selling it as soon as W7 becomes a success. I guess the market will phase it out on its own. the better is the enemy of the good.

I'm waiting to get W7 at work. We have XP and not having a pinnable taskbar sucks
I'm afraid in 1 year they will switch us to Vista at work... I hope not. but next year they will switch us to Office 2007. Hello, why spend the same money on Office 2007 when you get Office 2010? Especially since everyone gets expensive mandatory training? So I really hope Vista will be killed just to prevent out IT department from ever buying it.
