Can this be ordered on the net at MS store and downloaded today? Thnx.
you have to order this by calling them, can't order thru their site. as soon as the order is placed, they send you an email within about 5 mins with the product key and the link to the download.

Does anyone know if it's possible to do this if you already purchased the digital river upgrade version? i.e. can I still use my same .edu email address to get a proper version?
I bought the digital river upgrade as I was lazy (waiting on the phone for 45 minutes with MS, then hung up and did the digital river thing online) and read that it was going to be possible to do a genuinely clean install, which it unfortunately seems is not the case.
If I can get a proper retail version that does allow a totally clean install for another $30, then I will go for it!

    Cheers,

    Pat.

Recently I saw a posting about digital river offering 29.99 for anyone with a student email address. You had to go to the website and choose which version and whether or not you wanted the 64bit or 32 bit upgrade. I placed the order and then called Microsoft Store to cancel my previous preorder. When I told they why the said they can offer me the full retail version at the same price. I signed up and cancelled my order with digital river.

    Here is what you do:
    1. Make sure you have a valid email address with .edu
    2. Make sure you have your student ID ready.
    3. Call 1-877-696-7786
    4. Tell them you want to purchase the full retail version of either Home Premium of Professional. Why anyone would not choose Pro is beyond me.

For an extra $5 you can purchase the disk otherwise it is a digital download.

Enjoy a full retail version of W7 for only 30 bucks!

Ok, What am I doing wrong, I call the number. I pressed 7 the first time and called back alittle later and pressed I think 1. I called twice because both times they wanted to charge me $300. First time I stated I was a student and would like to buy Win7 Pro, the guy recommended me to check my university's bookstore for better deals because he wanted to charge me 300. And the second time I called I just said I would like to purchase Win7 Pro and the rep just quoted me 300 straight up. So what gives? What do i need to do to get the $30? Obviously I'm not doing something right or saying something. Thanks for any help

    Hi folks!

I'm interested in a clarification of the above posters inquiry as well, please.

Also, I have a question that I think everyone including microsoft has been beating around the bush about.

When you buy the retail version of Windows 7 Proffessional (student edition) does it come in retail packaging or on oem media? Does it come with 2 DVD's one 32-bit and one 64-bit? I am not interested in the download version, as I've heard more than enough people complaining about it.

    To clarify...

do they send this: or something like:

I called my ms store about this and they said that they don't have that information - helpful people they have there...

Any information is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance

    :edit:

I just called the microsoft store once again and asked them about the student version of Windows 7 Proffessional. Apparently I was speaking with a more competent sales rep because after a bit of questioning, the rep told me that I could order Win7 Pro retail or upgrade, via download or have it shipped to me. She said that the shipped version is exactly the same as if you were to walk into a store and pick it up from the shelf. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions included, in the original retail packaging.

I picked up the full version, and with my .edu e-mail the total came to $37.99...woohooo!

Do they email you a download link or something?

I downloaded the Home Premium Upgrade from Digital River for the $29.99 price before I realized that you had the option between that and the Professional edition.

I called Digital River yesterday and they put in a trouble ticket with Microsoft to see if they will cancel the key for my Home Premium edition and reset my eligibility so that I'll be able to download the Professional edition.

If they reset my eligibility and refund my $30 then I'll just call Microsoft and order the Professional retail version for the same price.

Just for anyones information, I called back a third time got a hold of a different person yet again. The rep looked to see if the offer was still available and I then found out that you can get full retail version of Pro or Ultimate for $30. So I got Ultimate Talk about being a happy customer. If you get a rep that says they dont have a discount or tells you to go to your University Bookstore, just call back at a different time and till you get someone that will give you the discount. I was quite surprised to find that it was good for Ultimate also. Also just FYI, I dont know if it makes a difference, but when I called I pressed 1 not 7. And just followed the above guys instruction. Much thanks to Jacen for this wonderful information!

So do they just email you a download link or something? And Jacen mentioned "make sure you have your student ID handy", why do they need that?

I'm no longer an active student, but I still have access to my .edu email address. Is that all I would need?
