Windows 7: Error Restoring OS

Error Restoring OS

Recently I went from Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Home Premium by upgrading the OS. Due to errors, I decided to restore my computer using the Windows.old file and this link: How to restore a Windows 7-based computer to a previous Windows installation by using the Windows.old folder.

During the steps, I received errors doing "move /y "c:\Windows.old\Program Files" c:\" or "move /y "c:\Windows.old\Documents and Settings" c:\" and unable to do ALL of step 5.

When i restarted, my computer logged in to Windows 7 Starter and contained all my programs and previous files. However, i am missing basic programs like calculator, accessories, games etc.

Also in my C: drive it contains program data, program files, users, and windows. There is another file named "W1n 7" that contains all these files but is about 1GB less for some reason. I am unable to delete "WIn 7" file as i dont have permissions even though im on admin account. I was wondering if my comp is using the "Windows 7" as boot file and the reason behind the absent programs or how should i delete this 9GB file on my 50GB laptop.
Thanks-

Back up your files to run Factory Recovery or boot the Windows 7 installer to do the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you bought a Home Premium key I'd clean install it.

Otherwise y ou'll need to run the eicfg removal tool on the ISO in Step 1 to burn or write an all-versions installer to choose Starter.

I dont want to restore using Home Premium as it was really buggy. I also dont have any other windows installation disk. Is it just possible to do factory reset or a way to pass the permissions to delete the win 7 file?

Tell us your PC make and model so we can help you run Recovery from the HD, by tapping the key given for Recovery on first boot screen. Factory Recovery methods

Or you can unhide all System and Hidden files at Control Panel>Folder Options>View then post back screenshots of the maximized folder showing contents of C and the Windows 7 folder you're concerned about, so we can advise if you can delete it using Take Ownership Shortcut. But i may be easier to run Recovery or even better to Clean Reinstall.

I also gave you the link to latest official installer and way to unlock it to burn to DVD or flash stick and reinstall Starter.
