Spinning circle and flickering mouse when alternative printer chosen

Whenever I choose one of the alternative printers (other than the default) I get a spinning blue circle and flickering mouse. This happens when I am using Word 2007. OS is 32 bit Win 7.

I have tried to see what processes are running in Task Manager and could not determine anythng that is hogging resources.

Furthermore, I find that in Word, Outlook and IE I am unable to print in colour at this alternative printer even though the setup shows that colour has been correctly chossen.

I have not problems printing in colour in Excel

Once the cursor starts misbehaving in Word I have no option but to shut it down and start again.

I do not get the curor problems in Outlook or IE but do have the problem with the printer not choosing the right colour option.

Does anyone have any clues where I should start looking for the solution?

open word, outlook,ie etc and pint (most applications use CTRL-P to activate it). Then select the alternative printer and click properties. Set it to colour and print.

Further update. I just needed to use Outlook and found that it too is suffering from the shivering cursor problem as in Word

Thank you kaktussoft for your interest in this matter. It is much appreciated.

Iam aware of the link beween Word and Outlook so I am not surprised. Just wanted to give you the FULL picture.

Just checked Wordpad and Ms Paint - no problem with shivering pointer and prints in colour as well.

Selected alternative printer as default printer and now when i start word or outlook the problem is there from the start.

Something tells me that it has to do with the printer setup/driver.

    Printer is RICOH AFICIO 2228C.

I will remove and reinstall printer with another driver and report back the results

Just reporting back after removing and reinstalling printer driver for the Ricoh AFICIO 2228C.

Downloaded win7 driver from their website as the windows update was of no use and after manually choosing it at the Add Printer function and over-riding the current driver, everything is working as it should.

We can mark this down as a closed thread.
