Then I go find this Android really is the new Windows | ZDNet

    guess we are doomed

Well just got this back form the M$ community forum from a MVP

Windows 7 will be supported up to 2020, so it's not out yet.
Also, Windows 8 with the addition of a 3rd party start menu is ok too..

Mind you there are A LOT of folks in there saying they hate 7 and 8 so it looks like a real slanging match going on LOL!! you ought to have a look LOL!!

John, I feel with you. But I don't think that Linux is a good alternative unless you want only basic services (mail, letter writing, internet). As soon as you get into more complex applications like video editing or photo processing, it gets iffy. There are good products like Gimp, but they are damn hard to use.

And I don't think MS will give us credit for what we paid them in the past. They want our money in the future - which I guess they won't be getting for a while.

I love my android phone. I hardly think it's a viable replacement for windows though.

    ICit2lol,
" If it means Linux then I'll go Linux"
Me thinks I will go to bed!
Read were Dell's profits are plummeting due to PC sales falling off the cliff.

Linux has always been the same there's this small crowd that insists it's the most awesome thing ever, then tells you, you are going to have to hire your own tech department just do make it do what a normal pc can do with a few lines of script.

Linux is secure and stable sure, but in my eyes it will always be best used as a server OS.
...and calling Android linux is a bit of a stretch.
The foundation is there yeah, but it's not linux anymore.

I will grant that linux has the most dedicated fans I have met in my life though.
Sports, music, games, you name it, I've not seen any other fans defend anything like that.

    ...it's madness.

Well Wolfgang I haven't used it much except for getting me out of fixes when doing fixes and like you said I have only used it for Googling and retrieving data from drives that people have lost the password for - for example.

I didn't know about the graphics stuff - thanks for the heads up:)

Well as for M$ thats the last of my money they will get - I just cannot stand the hypocrisy and apathy of the individuals who control it to be honest which is an attribute they sadly lack, along with any form of recognisable humanity.

Oh well so much for the enjoyment of building your own eh?

    Mac fan boys?
I've met plenty, but they are generally idiots that only use their computer to look at lolcats and 4chan posts, in which case it doesn't really matter what computer they use.

The linux guys actually have a clue what they are talking about which makes any attempt to debate with them turn into a 3 day marathon.

What makes it worse is that you first need a 3 year intensive Linux study course to intelligently participate in the conversation.
