Win 7 x64 Start Menu Search Is Not Searching Documents

Hello,

I recently formatted my system and am having some issues with the start menu search... it does not appear to be searching any of my documents. I get email, favorites, items on my desktop, but no file or folder in my documents folder.

Indexing is turned on for my documents. When I click SEE MORE RESULTS on the start menu search the results window immediately loads and shows me the files I am looking for so I know they are indexed.

I have tried rebuilding my index several times.

Any ideas?

I don't use the Windows Search feature, I found it to be less than satisfactory. I use a 3rd party software product, Agent Ransack from Mythicsoft. It is free and provides better functionality, in my opinion. You can download it from;

Thanks for the suggestion.

One thing that I did notice is that on the start menu search the files are do see at under Files. I think I found a work around solution based on a MS Hotfix.

There is a way to get Windows to search non-indexed files on the start menu search. I don't understand why this is necessary as my documents are indexed; however it did work.

In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SearchPlatform\Preferences

Create a 32-bit D-word EnableSearchingSlowLibrariesInStartMenu and set that equal to 1.

Then restart the Windows Search Service or Windows and now when I search in the start menu search I see my document files under a Documents heading and not Files.

Not sure why the files that I have indexed and re-indexed are not showing on the start search, but this appears to work for me.

OK, glad you found a solution.
