That doesn't fix it. See the above links.

Disregard my last post. I was responding to several forums and inadvertently replied to the wrong one.

Yes, it does seem to fix all of the above issues.

1. Before when I attempted to drag a folder or file from the right pane and drop it on another in the left pane, just as I was about to release it, the left pane might suddenly scroll up to libraries or somewhere else, causing me to drop the file in some unknown location. It no longer does that.

2. When opening a folder in the left pane it might open correctly then jump to the bottom of the pane or even off the bottom of the pane leaving the cursor hovering in the original location. It has resolved that.

3. Each time I open a folder in the left pane now, it scrolls up high enough to show the contents of that folder. If the folder contains more subfolders than will fit in the pane as it is currently sized, it will scroll the folder that I click on to the top of the screen but no further, showing as much of the contents as the window size will allow below it.

4. Now when I first open explorer, the files are no longer expanded but more in a higher level or overall view of the folder structure, with minor folders and subfolders collapsed, the way that I would expect it to be.

5. In general it just doesn't display any of the erratic behavior mentioned above.

It does not fix the above issues. I have used those settings since Win7 was released, and the problem still happens.

As mentioned in the above links, the problem is erratic. You can make a change, think you fixed it, only to have the problem later return.

See this video for more details: http://www.md-arts.com/scrn/W7_Jumpi...elected_01.mov

Many hundreds of people have complained about this problem. They have examined every possible workaround. If fixing it only required turning off "show all folders" and "expand to current folder", it would have been found long ago.

Ok. Thanks joema. It hasn't returned for me yet, so I will be watching for it.

Windows Explorer Left Pane - Erratic Behavior

There are several threads on the erratic behavior of Windows Explorer left pane. Add me to the list of those frustrated. However, last post on most of them seem to be quite some time ago. Is there a "real" fix. Or have we all just resigned ourselves to having to accept what Microsoft gives us?

...and three years later the bug is still there. Fortunately it does not happen that often.

Classic Shell contains a setting that fixes this precise bug in Explorer. It's located in Explorer settings => Navigation Pane => Fix folder scrolling.
The obvious downside is that you need third party software to fix a bug that MS should fix. At this point it's obvious that they don't care about it. I wonder if it's still broken in the latests Windows 8 and 10.

I use Classic Shell, and the setting you refer to is on by default. I can tell you that it does not fix everything. The folder tree still jumps up or down just when I get ready to click. I had it do this three times in a row, just like one of those joke apps that intentionally mess with you. It seems like it may happen only the first time you use windows explorer, and will behave well until the next boot. Possibly this is a boot-up issue.
