    File extension apeears twice (.avi) (.avi) !!!!

    Guys,

    Last two weeks this issue driving me crazy,some of my .avi files got the extension twice,not able to play in vlc media player,but it plays smooth in Windows media player.
    I don't now how it happened,but tried to rename it,still appears the same.

    When i looked in to the file properties it says the file having extension,(.avi) (.avi).!!!

    Thought of converting the whole file to some other format,sadly video converting program not able to open as it says unknown format!!!

    Advise pls

    Did you try checking to see if you have "hide extensions for known file types" in folder options? leave it unchecked, then remove one of the duplicate avi extensions.

    Malware will often use a double extension as a method of infecting computer systems. I suggest running an AV and malware scan to be safe. If you are not currently using an anti-malware program, I suggest MBAM, MalwareBytesAntiMalware, the free version can be downloaded from;
