Hi everyone

I have an eeepc 1000he with a viewsonic 22inch screen VX2255wmb. I have been using both for a while now with the dual screen setup without any problem. Since a couple days now, my external monitor won't show the optimal resolution which is 1600*1050. In the screen resolution set up page in windows 7, it used to highlight the optimal ones that respected the aspect ratio of the screen but now it just shows all of them and when I set it up at 1600*1050, I get an error message on the external monitor saying that the configuration I chose is out of range. Now the highest resolution I can use is 1400*1050.
I dual boot with windows xp and I don't have this problem with it. I didnt use any driver for both Os, just plugged the monitor in and it worked.

Anyone has an idea?

Thanks in advance!

According to ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

the only Windows supported and with a video driver is XP. You could try to install in compatibility mode for XP, but it probably won't work.

You can probably try installing the Vista drivers for the monitor?

To both posters above me, you haven't read the OP's post thoroughly.

"It worked fine intil a few days ago"

Lets not send the OP into the forest with trying all kind of drivers, while his present driver obviously worked until now.

To "longlife", please provide full specs of the laptop, especially the graphics card brand, amount of dedicated/shared memory, the driver's build number.

Give us something to work with.

Greetz

Hi thanks for the answers

My laptop is an eeepc 1000he with an intel atom n280 with dedicated graphics card mobile intel 945 driver version : 8.15.10.1825. I'm not sure where to see how much shared memory is used. I also have 2gb of 667mhz ram.

I haven't installed anything before I had this problem. Just used the laptop without the external monitor at school.

Let me know if you need any more information.

Thanks

What monitor is shown in the graphics section?
The viewsonic? Pnp screen? Other?

non pnp screen

I can't remember if it showed this before I had this problem though. But I'm sure it never showed viewsonic.

See if the "don't show non supported resolutions" checkbox on the monitor tab is unchecked.
It needs to be unchecked.

Alternatively, go to viewsonic's website and download the driver (inf) for the monitor.

I dont think the "don't show non supported resolutions" checkbox will change anything, because I can see the correct resolution but it just doesn't work.

What do you mean by inf driver? I went on the website and was able to download a driver which is in an .exe file.
I currently don't have internet at home and am currently at a friends house so I will have to try the exe file when I get home later

The driver may be packed in an exe selfinstaller, but the monitor driver itself is always an .Inf file.
Never mind that, just install it with the exe file.

You said you see the right resolution?
What happens when you select it and click apply?

when I set it up at 1600*1050, I get an error message on the external monitor saying that the configuration I chose is out of range.

I'm assuming you mean 1680x1050, but that doesn't really matter. When the monitor complains of being out of range, it's has always been my experience that there is an incompatible refresh rate set for the given resolution. Check on that.

When I set it to 1680*1050 I have an error message on my monitor saying that it is out of range.
I also thought it was the refresh rate, but at this resolution I do not have a choice, it can only be set at 60hz.

Also, yesterday, the monitor worked for a couple hours at the correct resolution. But after I shut the computer off and opened it again today the screen screws up again.
It is very weird and random... The only thing I did on my computer yesterday when the monitor was working correctly was watch a couple tv shows. I didnt even have internet and haven't installed anything...

Sounds like a cable issue to me since it's intermittent. Can you get another DVI or VGA cable (whichever you're using) to try?

If not, check that all the pins aren't bent and that when connected, is tight and secure.

I don't have another vga cable around. I'll try to find one somewhere.
I checked the pins and they all seem to be fine. But it's weird though, because if it was a problem with the cable the monitor shouldn't even show anything right? and in my case, its just the highest resolution that doesn't work. I'm still able to use the monitor with a lower resolution. Or maybe I'm wrong and a problem with the cable could affect just the highest resolution?

Does your netbook and monitor have DVI?

If yes, use a DVI cable.
