Samsung NP305v42 Note book

Has anyone had ant experience running Windows seven 64 bit on this or similar notebook. There are various problems. System restore disabled won't enable; The system crashing a white "veil" appearing over everything as if the brightness if the monitor has been turned up. Also the DVD only plays discs and is not recognized by Nero or any other program for that matter.

I've put a sceccy file with this but basically an AMD quad core processor 8 GB of Ram and dual Radeon graphics it only a few weeks old I ran it on 32 bit for a while but decided to upgrade to 64 because I had problems on that, now I have more problems I have looked for some of the drivers and have just downloaded the Chip-set drivers that appear to be the Vista 64 Bit ones, any suggestions the DVD Rom and Crashing issues are priority.

Samsung can be problematic getting some of the features to work correctly after a Clean Reinstall.

First follow these steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Read the Special notes for Samsung owners at the end.

After all Updates are installed import only the drivers missing in Device Manager, test drive it to determine with certainty what isn't working correctly. Then look on the Support Downloads webpage for your model for extra software and Hotfixes which address the problems. We can help you if necessary.

Thanks so much for that, I was a network engineer so that was the road I was going down anyway but some good tips there i Haven't built machines for a long time (I don't think using Norton Ghost Counts!)

Samsung seemed to have washed there hands of this particular model the only 64 bit drivers are ex Vista, and I am even thinking of either going back to 32 bit or taking the laptop back and buying something decent like a HP !

Take Care

Simon, for less than 4gb RAM I always run 32 bit for less problems and drag. Drivers are rarely an issue except for the most ancient hardware. They are fully automated in Windows 7 installer and via optional Updates after reinstall. I rarely have to provide more than one or two, and have never failed to find one. Vista drivers will work, but likely be updated with newer.

The issue with Samsung is more often hotkeys, keyboard lighting, touchpad gestures, etc. since the software they offer on Downloads page is some times not sufficient.

Yeah I understand. I have 8GB of Ram installed and I hear what your saying, I would of thought after all this time the manufacturers and MS would have got together and sorted this thing out.

When I had installed 64bit clean install it seemed to be much smoother desktop wise (I don't play games) I do video editing and I make karaokes and use audio editing suites.

But maybe that was just because it was using the extra Ram? you may just be right. Ive worked in the IT trade for pretty much 10 years, and I still don't know all the answers !

I know to a certain extent its a self serving industry but this is why I delayed upgrading for so long ! Ive got a Vista 64 driver for the sound and DVD ROM so the battle is not over yet .. There it still will crash if I access system restore I am going to do a windows repair and take it from there today.

Thanks for the advice.

If you want to try repairing it then work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7
to establish a Clean boot, scan the logs for errors to resolve, utilize System resources, run SFC to check System files, do a possible Repair Install, leading up to if necessary the Reinstall.

If you get an actual Blue Screen crash you can post it up for analysis in our Crashes forum to help pinpoint the cause: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 7 Forums
